GRAND RAPIDS, M.I. (September 12, 2019) - Kari Kalgren, K2 Health Training Solutions Director, spoke at the 2019 14th Annual NORM Conference on September 12 and 13. The NORM Board recently went through Lean Bronze certification training and as part of their certification process completed projects and wrote up case studies to share back with the NORM membership which were highlighted in Kalgren’s presentations.
Kalgren's two breakout sessions presented capacity crowds with the following important topics.
Breakout #1: Case Study: Approach to Applying Lean Workflow Improvements in Rheumatology
This breakout session reviewed live case studies from NORM practices that have implemented innovative Lean workflow improvements and their subsequent outcomes. The case studies were rheumatology specific and brought to life the challenges, best practices, key metrics and staff responses to making changes in the practice.
Breakout #2: Working Session: Identify & Improve the Patient Experiences in Your Practice
The patient experience is appropriately the focus of reframing healthcare in the volume to value-based care conversation. How do you apply Lean & Voice of Customer thinking to the patient journey to better understand how the process looks from their perspective? The interactive workshop-style session led participants through an exercise of drawing out an actionable value stream map to identify activities not contributing to experiences patients want in a practice.
